What is this place?
This sugar estate in eastern Mauritius combines traditional agriculture with state-of-the-art industrial processing. It is one of the leading producers of raw sugar on the island and exports worldwide.
Visiting
The factory is sometimes open for tours during harvest season (June-December), but access is restricted for safety reasons. The vast sugarcane fields are well visible from the surrounding roads.
Where to view it
The best viewpoint is along the coastal road in front of the estate house, from where you see the green fields and the ocean beyond. Another spot is the bridge over the Grand River South East.

In Mauritius, raw sugar is sold in various forms, from golden brown sugar to thick molasses. In the surrounding villages you can also find rum distilled from sugarcane.
Active season
The harvest season runs from June to December, then the fields are full of workers and the factory runs at full capacity. The highest production is reached in the months August to October.
