Vientiane Orchid Farm (Laos)

Weather…

The Vientiane Orchid Farm is dedicated to the conservation and breeding of endemic orchid species from all over Laos. Hundreds of rare and endangered orchids that are threatened by habitat loss in the wild are grown in the extensive greenhouses. The farm works closely with international botanists to catalog rare specimens and reintroduce them to their natural habitat. Visitors can admire the diverse colors and shapes of the flowers in the show gardens and learn how these delicate plants are cared for. A special laboratory on site deals with the in vitro propagation of hard-to-cultivate species. The project serves as an important educational center for locals and tourists about the importance of species conservation. In addition to orchids, the facility also houses a selection of tropical ferns and ornamental plants.
