Khorgos Gateway is one of the world's largest dry ports and a cornerstone of the 'New Silk Road,' located on the border between Kazakhstan and China. Situated in the Eurasian 'Pole of Inaccessibility,' this logistical hub serves as a critical transshipment point for rail freight moving between Asia and Europe. The significance of Khorgos arises from the difference in railway gauges: since tracks in China are narrower than those in the former Soviet republics, all containers must be transferred from one train to another at this location. The Gateway encompasses a vast container terminal, a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and the ICBC Khorgos international trade center. The facility is designed to handle thousands of containers daily using state-of-the-art gantry cranes and automated systems. Beyond logistics, a new city named Nurkent is being developed nearby to house thousands of workers and their families. Khorgos is a major geopolitical project that strengthens the land bridge between the Pacific and Atlantic, establishing Kazakhstan as a leading transit nation in Central Asia.
