The Cliffs of Slieve League (Sliabh Liag) in County Donegal are a staggering display of nature's power. Rising to 601 meters (1,972 feet), they are nearly three times higher than the more famous Cliffs of Moher, making them some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. The view from the Bunglass viewpoint offers a vast panorama across Donegal Bay towards the mountains of Sligo and Mayo. For seasoned hikers, the 'One Man's Path' is a legendary challenge, consisting of a narrow ridge that leads to the summit with steep drops on either side. Historically, the mountain has been a site of pilgrimage, with the ruins of an early Christian hermitage still visible at the peak. At the base of the cliffs, you can spot the unique rock formations known as the 'Giant's Desk and Chair' jutting out from the Atlantic surf. Access is through the village of Teelin, where a narrow road winds up to a mountain car park. Visitors are encouraged to use the local shuttle bus to minimize environmental impact. The best time to visit is late morning when the sun highlights the vibrant ochre and grey colors of the cliff face. Extreme caution is advised during high winds or foggy conditions.
