Baluran National Park (Indonesia)

Weather…

Baluran National Park is situated at the northeastern tip of Java in the East Java province. Formally established in 1980, it covers an area of roughly 25,000 hectares. The park is frequently referred to as Indonesia's 'Little Africa' due to its extensive savanna landscapes, which contrast sharply with the lush tropical forests typical of Java. The dominant geographical feature is the extinct Mount Baluran volcano, rising to an elevation of 1,247 meters. Its ecosystem includes dry forests, mangroves, and the notable Bekol Savanna. These habitats support a variety of wildlife, including the endangered Javan banteng, water buffaloes, and several species of macaques. The park serves as a critical refuge for biodiversity and is a focal point for ecological research on dry climate systems in Indonesia.
