Lin Fa Kung Temple (Hong Kong SAR China)

Weather…

The Lin Fa Kung Temple, also known as the Palace of the Lotus, is a unique architectural landmark situated in the Tai Hang area of Hong Kong. Built in 1863 during the Qing Dynasty, it was dedicated to Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. Its architectural design is extraordinary, featuring a half-octagonal front hall supported by pillars, while the rear part is built directly into the natural rock face of the cliff. This creates a visual effect as if the temple is a lotus flower floating above the ground. The temple is famous globally as the focal point of the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, a spectacular tradition performed during the Mid-Autumn Festival to ward off plague and bad luck. This event has been inscribed on China's national list of intangible cultural heritage. Inside, visitors can admire ornate ceiling paintings and traditional lanterns that fill the space with a warm, spiritual glow. Declared a statutory monument in 2014, the temple serves as a bridge between Hong Kong's ancient folk traditions and its bustling urban present.
