Schwerin Castle
Schwerin Castle (Schweriner Schloss) is a spectacular Neo-Renaissance masterpiece perched on an island in Lake Schwerin, often described as the 'Neuschwanstein of the North.' For centuries the residence of the Mecklenburg dukes, the current structure was completed in the mid-19th century and features over 600 rooms, including a magnificent throne room and a grand gallery. The castle's 635 golden towers and spires create a fairytale silhouette that is reflected in the surrounding water. It is surrounded by a magnificent ensemble of gardens, including a formal Baroque parterre and an English landscape park. Today, the castle serves as the seat of the State Parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and remains the ultimate symbol of the region's royal history and architectural ambition.
