Weather…

Peenemünde, located at the northern tip of Usedom Island, was one of the most modern and dangerous technological sites in the world between 1936 and 1945. At the Army Research Center, scientists led by Wernher von Braun developed the world's first functional large-scale rocket, the A4, better known as the V-2. On October 3, 1942, the world's first launch of a man-made object into space took place here. However, this pioneering technical achievement had a dark side: the production of the rockets was carried out under inhumane conditions by forced laborers and concentration camp prisoners, primarily at Mittelbau-Dora. Today, the Historical Technical Museum in the former power station commemorates the ambivalence of this location between technical progress and military abuse. Visitors can explore the extensive grounds, where original components and replicas of the rockets are on display. Peenemünde is regarded as the birthplace of modern spaceflight but remains inextricably linked to the crimes of National Socialism.
