Hanseatic City of Stralsund (Germany)

Weather…

Stralsund, the Hanseatic city on the Strelasund, is known as the gateway to the island of Rügen and impresses with its exceptionally well-preserved medieval layout. Together with Wismar, the old town of Stralsund has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2002, as it architecturally reflects the heyday of the Hanseatic League in the 14th century. Outstanding examples of Brick Gothic include the magnificent Town Hall with its delicate show facade and the three large parish churches: St. Mary's, St. Nicholas's, and St. James's. The city's location on an island, surrounded by city ponds and the Baltic Sea, continues to shape its maritime atmosphere today. Alongside its historical treasures, Stralsund features the Ozeaneum, a modern attraction of international standing dedicated to the underwater world of the northern seas. The legendary sailing training ship Gorch Fock I is also moored in the harbor and open to visitors.
