Located just a few kilometers from the Baltic Sea coast, Bad Doberan combines high-gothic brick architecture with classicist spa traditions. The town center is dominated by the Doberaner Münster, a late 13th-century church that ranks among the most significant Cistercian buildings in Europe and retains its original medieval interior largely intact. Right next to the monastery grounds, the 900-millimeter narrow-gauge steam railway known as the "Molli" puffs its way through the narrow streets of the city center, connecting the town with the coastal resorts of Heiligendamm and Kühlungsborn since 1886. A walk through the Kamp, an English-style park lined with linden trees, reveals classicist pavilions dating back to around 1800, recalling the era when the region was the summer gathering place for the Mecklenburg nobility. Beyond exploring the historic structures, visitors can utilize the forested surroundings of the Doberaner Holz for cycling and hiking trips towards the coast.
