Oodi Library (Finland)

Weather…

Helsinki Central Library Oodi is an ultra-modern cultural hub opened in 2018 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence. Designed by ALA Architects, the building features a striking undulating facade made of Finnish spruce and glass. Oodi is far more than a traditional library; its three floors offer diverse spaces, including maker spaces with 3D printers, recording studios, a cinema, and public meeting areas. The top floor, known as 'book heaven', features a wavy white ceiling and provides panoramic views of the city center through its massive windows. Oodi is considered a prime example of a modern library functioning as a 'living room for the city', promoting lifelong learning and active citizenship. Its location directly opposite the Parliament House symbolizes the central role of knowledge and democracy in Finnish society.
