The Langinkoski Imperial Fishing Lodge near Kotka was the favorite summer retreat of Russian Tsar Alexander III during his visits to Finland. Completed in 1889, the wooden structure is picturesquely situated by the rapids of the Kymijoki River, famous for its abundance of salmon. In stark contrast to the opulence of the St. Petersburg palaces, the lodge is characterized by a deliberate simplicity that reflected the Tsar's desire for a natural and carefree lifestyle. The ground floor houses a spacious kitchen and living areas, while the upper floor contains the modest bedrooms of the imperial family. Following Finland's independence in 1917, the building was nationalized and now serves as a museum displaying original furniture and everyday items belonging to the Romanovs. The surrounding grounds are now a nature reserve, preserving the historical atmosphere for future generations.
