Ohre River (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Ohře, also known as Eger in German, is a major left tributary of the Elbe. It originates in the Fichtel Mountains in Germany and flows into the Elbe at Litoměřice after about 300 kilometers. The Czech part of the river is particularly popular with water sports enthusiasts and is considered one of the most beautiful canoeing rivers in the country. The Ohře meanders through easy on the eye landscapes, including the Slavkov Forest nature reserve and the volcanic Doupov Mountains. Numerous historical sights rise along its banks, such as the castles in Loket and Kynšvart or the historic city of Cheb. The river is also an important fishing ground with stocks of trout, grayling, and barbel. Two large reservoirs, Skalka and Nechranice, were built for water regulation and energy production and now also serve as popular recreational areas.
