Best season
The nesting season of sea turtles runs from May to September - the best time to observe is June and July when females come ashore at night. Hatching of the young mainly occurs in August and September.
Best time of day
Turtles come ashore almost exclusively at night - visits are only possible with ranger accompaniment in the late evening hours (from 9 PM). During the day you can visit the nesting beaches, but the animals are not active then.
Etiquette
Keep at least 10 meters distance from turtles and do not use artificial light (flashlight, flash) as it disorients them. Touching the turtles or their eggs is strictly prohibited.
What to bring
A flashlight with red light is useful for observing turtles without disturbing them - many rangers provide these. Light, breathable clothing and sturdy footwear are recommended for the beach walk.
Getting there
Paramali Turtle Beach is on the south coast of Cyprus, about 15 km west of Limassol. Access via a narrow road from the B6 - a sign marks the beach. Parking is limited, best to arrive early.
What to expect
Turtle watching requires a lot of patience - females come irregularly, and hatching can take minutes. Plan several hours and be ready to wait quietly - rangers will alert you when something happens.
