Mount Olympus (Cyprus)

Weather…

Mount Olympus, standing at 1,952 meters, is the highest point in Cyprus and forms the heart of the Troodos Mountains. Geologically, it is part of an ophiolite complex, making it a site of global scientific interest as rocks from the ancient seabed are exposed here at the surface. The summit provides an expansive panoramic view across the entire island to the Mediterranean Sea. During the winter months between January and March, Mount Olympus serves as Cyprus's only ski resort, featuring several slopes and ski lifts. A prominent British Royal Air Force radar station is located at the highest point, which is why the actual summit is a restricted military zone. The mountain slopes are covered with dense forests of black pine and endemic Troodos cedars, providing cool temperatures for hikers in summer. Numerous well-marked hiking trails, such as the Artemis Trail, circle the summit, allowing for the observation of rare plant species and birds of prey.
