Jurandvor is located in the fertile Baška valley on the island of Krk and is one of the most important cultural and historical sites in Croatia. The village is known worldwide for the Church of Saint Lucy (sv. Lucija), where the Baška Tablet (Bašćanska ploča) was discovered in 1851. This stone monument from the year 1100 is the most significant document of the Croatian language, as it mentions the name of a Croatian king (Zvonimir) for the first time in Glagolitic script. Today, visitors can admire a faithful copy in the church and learn much about the Benedictine monks who once lived here. In addition to its historical significance, Jurandvor gives an idyllic rural atmosphere. The surrounding vineyards and olive groves invite relaxed walks. Hiking trails lead from here into the barren, moon-like landscape of the hills above Baška, offering spectacular views of the sea and neighboring islands. The proximity to the famous Vela Plaža beach in Baška makes Jurandvor a well-suited base for culture lovers who also want to enjoy the sea. Local konobas serve Krk specialties, including Šurlice (handmade pasta) and lamb. The village has preserved its original character and has a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the nearby seaside. A visit to Jurandvor is a journey to the roots of Croatian identity and culture. It is a must-see for every visitor to the island of Krk.
