Truro is widely known as the 'Hub of Nova Scotia' because of its central location at the intersection of the province's major road and rail networks. Historically, the area was a significant Mi'kmaq settlement known as Wagobagitik before Acadian settlers arrived in the early 18th century. Following the Acadian Expulsion, the town was resettled in 1761 by New England Planters who established the current townsite. One of the city's most famous natural attractions is the Tidal Bore on the Salmon River, a phenomenon caused by the surge of the massive Bay of Fundy tides. Victoria Park, a 400-acre natural woodland park located in the heart of the town, features dramatic waterfalls and rugged rocky gorges. Truro is also home to the Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus, maintaining its long-standing tradition as an agricultural center. Today, the town serves as a bustling commercial and cultural center with a well-preserved historic downtown area.
