Istana Nurul Iman (Brunei)

Weather…

Istana Nurul Iman is the official residence of the Sultan of Brunei and is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest residential palace. Completed in 1984 at an estimated cost of $1.4 billion, its opening coincided with Brunei's independence from the United Kingdom. The palace architecture combines traditional Malay aesthetics, seen in its sweeping golden roofs, with grand modern design. It contains 1,788 rooms, including a massive throne room for state functions and a banquet hall capable of seating 5,000 guests. Perched on a hill overlooking the Brunei River, the palace grounds cover over 200,000 square meters of floor space. The estate also features air-conditioned stables for the Sultan's 200 polo ponies and an extensive underground garage for his world-renowned luxury car collection. While normally closed to the general public, the palace opens its doors for three days annually during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival, allowing thousands of visitors to enter and meet the royal family. It stands as a monumental symbol of the wealth and enduring power of the Bruneian monarchy.
