The Igman ammunition factory in the southern Bosnian town of Konjic is a unique industrial site and the pride of the Bosnian defense industry. Built in the 1950s deep in the mountains of Yugoslavia for strategic reasons, the facility features massive, nuclear-bomb-proof underground production halls as well as above-ground facilities. Igman has specialized in the production of small-caliber ammunition, for both NATO standards and old Soviet calibers, and exports its products to military and police forces in over 50 countries worldwide. After a drastic decline following the war, the factory experienced an unprecedented renaissance in the 2010s due to booming global arms markets. Today, with over a thousand employees, Igman is the undisputed economic engine of the Konjic municipality, bringing millions in foreign exchange into the Federation annually.
