Grand Place (Belgium)

Weather…

The Grand Place is the bustling heart of Brussels and undeniably one of the most magnificent historical squares in Europe. The square is characterized by an extraordinarily harmonious ensemble of opulent Baroque guildhalls and the imposing Gothic City Hall, whose striking tower dominates the skyline of the historic center. While the origins of this architectural masterpiece trace back to the Middle Ages, the vast majority of the current buildings were meticulously reconstructed after a devastating bombardment by French troops in the late 17th century. Each guildhall bears a unique name and symbolizes the immense wealth and political power of the former Brussels merchant and artisan guilds. A particularly captivating spectacle is the Flower Carpet, laid out every two years in August, where over half a million begonias are arranged into a lively, intricate pattern covering the cobblestones. In recognition of its outstanding historical and cultural significance, the Grand Place was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1998.
