Farley Hill (Barbados)

Weather…

Farley Hill National Park is one of the most poignant historical sites in Barbados, situated on a limestone ridge 270 meters above sea level. The site is centered around the skeletal ruins of a grand mansion originally built in 1818 by Sir Graham Briggs. This palatial home was once regarded as the finest in the West Indies, hosting luminaries such as King George V. The estate's era of opulence ended abruptly in 1965 when a massive fire gutted the building, leaving only its sturdy coral-stone walls intact. Today, these ruins are beautifully overgrown with mahogany trees and ferns, providing a hauntingly romantic backdrop for visitors. Officially opened as a national park in 1966, it has arguably the most wide-open panoramic views of the rugged Scotland District and the Atlantic coastline of St. Andrew. The grounds have since evolved into a premier cultural venue, famously serving as the natural amphitheater for the annual Barbados Jazz Festival.
