Gympie is a historically significant town located in the Wide Bay-Burnett region of Queensland, famously known as the 'Town that Saved Queensland' due to the 1867 gold rush. Today, it retains much of its 19th-century charm with beautifully preserved heritage buildings and the engaging Gympie Gold Mining and Historical Museum. A major tourist attraction is the Mary Valley Rattler, a historic steam train that takes visitors on a scenic journey through the lush hinterland. While Gympie itself is an inland city and does not have its own beaches, it is just a short drive from the remarkable coastal destinations of the Sunshine Coast, including Rainbow Beach. The surrounding natural landscape features rolling hills, macadamia farms, and pine plantations, offering excellent opportunities for hiking, camping, and exploring rural Australia. The local agricultural sector also supports an animated food scene, with farmers' markets showcasing fresh regional produce. The city is easily reachable via the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane.
