General Pico is the second most significant city in the La Pampa Province and a major economic hub located in its northern region. Established on November 11, 1905, by Eduardo de Chapeaurouge, the city developed as a strategic crossroads for several railway lines. Its urban layout follows a precise grid system characterized by wide streets and numerous public parks. Economically, General Pico is renowned for its industrial strength and agricultural output, and it also hosts an important Free Trade Zone (Zona Franca) that bolsters regional commerce. The city serves as an academic center, housing the Engineering and Veterinary Medicine faculties of the National University of La Pampa. The surrounding area is among the most fertile in the province, making the city a leading center for grain production and cattle farming.
