In Guezzam is Algeria's southernmost border town with Niger and serves as the capital of the province of the same name, established in 2019. Geographically, it is located in the vast desert landscape south of the Hoggar Mountains and acts as the last Algerian gateway on the Trans-Saharan route to Agadez. The settlement is a melting pot of various Saharan peoples, particularly the Tuareg, and plays a central role in regional trade and border security. Due to extreme aridity, agriculture is nearly impossible, so the population's supply is largely managed through state logistics and cross-border exchange. The town possesses a strategically important airport that connects the isolated region with the north of the country. Historically, the site was a resting place for caravans, while today it gives modern infrastructure for the movement of people and goods despite the constant challenges of sandstorms and heat.
